One of the best things that happened to me during this pandemic crisis is that I was able to find a job and that is to be an online English teacher.

What is an English as a Second Language(ESL) Teacher? ESL teachers work with English Language Learners (ELLs), or those students for whom English is not their primary language.

Luckily, even though I am only a High School graduate, I got accepted as an English teacher because they say that I am good at speaking the language.

But what are some types of students you will encounter during the class? Here are some of the students that you may already encounter during your lesson.

Yawning Machine

Yawning machines are students that always yawn during the class. These are students who wanted to express their boredom with the lesson they chose. Most of the time, you will see that teacher always smile and make him/herself speak louder to ensure that student will stay awake in the class.

Witty Witch/Witty Wizards

These are the "feeling intelligent" students at the start of the conversation. They wanted to show you that they are dominant and makes you feel they can handle the class on their own as if they are not the student at all. But when you start acting like a complicated teacher, they will step back and start acting like a baby who doesn't know anything.

Yes yes show.

These are the students who only listen and acknowledge all the time. Teachers are the ones who answer their own questions and when the student feels that the answer is right, they start saying "Yes" or "Correct" to acknowledge your statement.

Mr./Ms./Mrs. Etc.

These are types of student who can't explain themselves without giving an example. They wanted to make sure that the listener will understand their explanation by means of giving examples related to the topic. I am not saying this is bad, but it is one of the best ways to express ourselves.

The Merriam Webster Dictionary

These are students who are keenly observant of what the teacher says. They normally ask you to pause and they will look out for the synonym of the word that teacher mentioned. Once they find out the meaning, they will go back to you and continue with the lesson.

Laugh out loud student

From the phrase itself, they are the type of students who laugh a lot during the lesson. Sometimes, they literally say "LOL" to acknowledge your jokes.

Well, I always ask myself If I would have problems with my student. Based on my ratings, I always get a good score and good comments about how I treat my students but sometimes I feel bad when a student is treating me in a disrespectful way. Well, we can't please everyone as they say.

I am sure that my examples are not just the only types of personality that students are showing during the lesson. They may be good or bad students, but what more important is that we treat them in the nicest attitude with utmost satisfaction during the lesson.

How about you? Do you think there are other types of personality you can add from this blog? Share some of your experiences.
